Reading Time: 3 minutes

Today, September 17, 2024 is National Voter Registration Day, which is the time to ask yourself: Are you registered? Are you sure? Extra-doubly 200% sure?

Because if you are sure you’re registered, in some states, if you haven’t voted for a few years, if you’ve moved, or just due to the ocassional computer glitch, you may find yourself purged from the rolls. It takes just 3 minutes!

If you are not yet registered, do you know how? Do it today.

Just click the relevant button below, or visit the National Voter Registration Day site and register.

Special Note for Texans in 2024: It is not possible to register to vote online in Texas. You must fill out the information on your state’s .gov site, then bring that printed information to your county election clerk office in person or by mail. (We suggest in-person.) It is a little confusing, and some voters fill out the form online, and don’t realize that this is not actually your registration.

WHY THE 2024 ELECTION MATTERS

We get it! Parents are all busy, overwhelmed, and overscheduled.  But registering to vote — and of course, actually voting — is one of the easiest ways for us to get involved in the political process, and have a say in the laws and leaders who impact our kids’ lives.

On the ballot this November:

  • The presidential election is being held (you know that, of course!)
  • 35 of 100 Senate seats are up for election, including 2 special elections
  • 11 state governorships are up for election
  • All 435 seats in the US House of Representatives are up for election.

So this year’s election will have major implications for the Supreme Court, control of Congress, judgeships on every level, and of course, the entire presidency.

The results of this election will have major implications in our day to day lives, but will also impact generations — it will impact the air we breathe, the water we drink, the laws we pass, the health care we have access to, the funding for our schools, the way we treat friends, family and neighbors who are immigrants, the way we engage with other countries of the world, the way we preserve our democracy and ensure the future of free and fair elections.

Even if you think your “vote doesn’t count” because you are not in a swing state, it does. It always counts. This is an opportunity for you to have your voice be heard. Just be sure to do it by October 5.

We know how many millions of little things you’re managing right now. Check this one off your to-do list right now, while you’re here.
